How to Style Summer Layers

Spring/summer can be tricky down here in Arkansas. One day is 90 degrees and the next its back in the 60's. So it's important to always have layers on hand! But if you're at all like me, you may find summer layers slightly tricky. You want to still look summery, but have enough fabric to keep you warm! So I teamed up with my friends over at Ellison Apparel to show you how I tackle summer layers!

The key when styling layers in the summer is to keep it light. Both light fabric and light colors. I'm a huge fan of pastels, because they work perfectly for summer and are typically neutral enough to wear with just about anything! This pale pink suede moto jacket is the perfect piece! Now like I said earlier, Arkansas can go from hot to chilly in a second, so when I'm wearing layers, I like to have on something sleeveless under so if I start to get hot I can take off my jacket and cool down quickly! This striped high neck top was the perfect pair. Plus, y'all know I can never have enough stripes in my wardrobe. These little black pants pulled the entire look together! I love these because they're the perfect crop length. AND I'm super excited because they're a nice fabric, so I can wear them to work - but they have an elastic waistband! Such a score because that makes them super comfy so I can crawl around on the floor with all my speech therapy kiddos and be good to go!

So hopefully this will help y'all with summer layers! Remember the key is to keep it light! But when in doubt, you can always grab a good jean jacket as well! You can shop this entire look over at Ellison Apparel!

Parties and Picnics

Summer is HERE. And so are all the parties, grill outs and picnics. But the worst part is when you plan out the cutest outfit, get completely ready, and then head out to your event and immediately start sweating. Hah! It happens to us all. So it's always important for me to have a few dresses in my closet that are high-quality and fashionable - but keep me cool. Thanks to Maude, I found my go-to dress for this summer!

This little dress is seriously the cutest. It has crochet detailing along the front that wraps all the way around to the back. Plus a little cut out at the neckline along with a halter tie top. I would say that it runs a teensy bit big - but I still ordered it in my normal size and it works well!

And I'm sure none of you have seen these earrings (wink wink) yet this season, but I'm obsessed with the tassel trend. They add a fun little detail along with a pop of color - bonus, they're super light so no ear-pulling! Hope you all are having a fabulous memorial day weekend!

Back to Basics

Back to basics today on the blog. Is there anything better really? This is my go-to weekend outfit when I need to look cute, but still want to be comfy enough to run errands. I pretty much live in jean jackets recently (in case you haven't noticed) - so that was a given. I've literally been leaving one in my car because you can always throw it on; they go with everything! My current fave pairing with denim is stripes. I know...another shocker. But seriously y'all, you can't EVER go wrong with a striped dress. This one is from Shop Maude. It's perfectly lightweight and flowy which makes it awesome for the summer months, but I will warn you that this one is a little sheer - but nothing that a good slip can't fix!

I'm from Fayetteville, so I couldn't resist snapping up this Fay hat as well! Perfect for second day-hair, or for those days you just aren't feeling it. Finally, I threw on my white Keds. Granted, I'm slightly biased as I interned fro Keds - but being totally real they're just the best shoes for running around! Still super cute, but also super comfortable. I call them my "fashionable sneakers" because they feel like tennis shoes without all the bulk.

Easy Layering

It's no secret that I love chambray. Pretty positive it's my all time favorite closet staple - it goes with absolutely everything and you can style it in each season. This is one of the most versatile outfits in my closet and I get compliments every time I wear it!

This linen shirt dress from J.Jill is super soft and comfy (as is everything at J.Jill) and is the PERFECT length for all of us tall girls. I'm 5'10 and it's incredibly hard to find dresses that are long enough and this one hits right above the knee. Fair warning, I find J.Jill to run a little on the big side, so I always order a size down unless I want it fairly oversized. I layered it with my go-to jean jacket - I'm 100% going through a jean jacket addiction phase, if you haven't already noticed. And I grabbed the matching chambray hat to top it all off, because why not? Layering is an easy way to get that "effortlessly cool" look while still staying comfy!

Mellow Yellow Layers

It's been so incredibly warm here - it was 80 degrees this week! But regardless, I'm not quite ready to jump into a summer wardrobe yet. So, of course, I've been wearing all of my jackets non-stop to slowly begin the transition to spring.

Layers are always my best friend when it comes to (what seems like) the ever-changing weather. This dress from my fave boutique, Maude, is one of the easiest pieces to layer. You could pair it with tights or leggings, a jean jacket or moto jacket (like I have on here) or just wear it by itself. The possibilities are endless with a good staple dress. AND this dress comes in a pretty blush color as well! Pretty sure I need them both. Shop this look below!

Fancy Valentine

The balloons are back! Hah! What's a Valentine's shoot without heart balloons anyway? But the big day is just around the corner and I'm bringing you another dress from Chicwish that is perfect for the holiday! This dress is quite a bit dressier then the last one I shared - so if you've got big plans with you sweetie (or besties), this dress has got you covered! It's off-the-shoulder which will keep you right on trend and the floral detailing is gorgeous! Only downside to this dress is that it does come with padding in the chest - but I think it would be fairly easy to cut out if you don't want it!

This dress is elegant all on it's own, so you don't need a ton of jewelry. Just add some statement earrings and that is all it takes!

Spring Inspiration

Spring is SO close! I can feel it. Granted....it never really felt like winter here, so it's sort of been spring for a while in Arkansas. Hah! But regardless...I digress. I have been so ready to bust out all my floral dresses, sandals and skirts (although....may need to get some self-tanner first...) for the new season. I'm a sucker for a good floral print - and this one is no exception! This dress from Chicwish is actually an off-the-shoulder dress (bonus), but it just so happens to pair with a jean jacket perfectly and I couldn't resist! I also had to pull out my hot pink tassel earrings, because they have always been my go-to spring accessory.

Velvet Love

Velvet has been a huge trend all year long, but it's taken me a while to find the perfect velvet number. But I'm happy to say that the wait is now over friends. I introduce to you, the navy velvet wrap dress from She Inside She Inside that stole my heart. This dress is super flattering on every figure and the wrap part makes it adjustable so you're sure to get the perfect fit! It is a tinsy bit low cut, but this would look great with a black lace camisole underneath as well!

To continue with the dark color scheme, I added a dark plum lip - my favorite is the shade "backstage" from Revlon! And as always, you can never go wrong with lots and lots of jewelry.

These photos were shot by the incredible local photographer Elizabeth Williams! Check her out if you need any photos done, she is fabulous!
