Baby Blue Dreams

To say that I'm obsessed with this little blue number is an understatement. The button up dresses have been such a big trend all summer and I'm excited that it's transferring into fall as well! This color is to die for (but it also comes in peach, black and tan) and the midi length makes it perfect for cooler weather.  I will say, I'm pretty tall - so for you shorter girls out there, this may be closer to a maxi dress on you. I opted to keep the accessories neutral and go with minimal makeup. But this is easy to dress up with a red lip and some heels! The slim waist line makes it flattering on every body type. It will definitely be a dress I reach for time and time again!

Back to School Style

For those of you who don't know - I work in the public schools. Which means back to school is right around the corner! I never thought I'd be talking about back to school fashion in my mid-20's, but here we are. Except now I'm focused on helping out all my sweet teacher and SLP friends!

Most school dress codes don't allow jeans - but as someone who spends a lot of their day getting up and down, on the floor, and running around, you have to find creative ways to wear comfy clothes. I recently worked with J.Jill and stumbled on the BEST JUMPSUIT EVER. It's a heavy weight rayon/spandex blend so it looks dressy but feels like sweatpants. The best of both worlds! And to cover the shoulders, I added a basic chambray shirt on top. I love tying this piece over tanks/dresses to add a little more coverage, but keep it fashionable and young. This outfit will be on repeat all school year long. Also easy to transition to fall/winter with blazers and jean jackets. A great staple piece!

Happy back to school!

Kindergarten to Adulthood

If you know me at all, you know that I have an obsession with polka dots. Ever since I was a little girl, polka dots and stripes have been in hot competition - but dots always come out on top.

I went to Nordstrom this week to shop their half yearly sale and when I saw this top and skort (yes....skort) on the rack, I knew I needed them. They're perfect pieces for summer! Both are super light and airy and so neutral. Wear them together or wear them separate, they're adorable either way!

And my new necessity this summer is a good backpack. Again - a love since childhood. But this backpack is a little more sophisticated than my neon green North Face. This backpack is from my friends over at Radley London and is a gorgeous black grainy leather. I like getting textured leather because I feel like it wears better over time. This style also comes in a beautiful taupe! I'll for sure be taking this everywhere I go all summer long.

All in the Details

There's nothing like some good detailing...and the pearls on this sweater dress are no exception. Pearl accents are a huge trend right now and I'm finally getting in on the action. I love the pearls in combination with this light grey color. It makes for the perfect neutral look with an unexpectedly modern twist. This is a great transition piece for spring - the length is just right and it has a high neck cut - still warm, but you can show a little leg with booties or some thigh-highs!

When you have a loud top, keep the accessories simple. I added the black boots along with a classic black bag. If you don't have a "staple" black cross body in your closet, you should consider adding one. I almost always reach for a basic black bag throughout the week! It goes with everything. I love this one from Radley - it's a good size to hold everything I need, without being bulky; and the leather is high-quality and so gorgeous in person! I love that the strap is detachable, so I can also carry it by the handles if I prefer. Radley has a bag for every style, so definitely check them out if you're in the market for a new staple purse!

Happy weekend!

Fur-ocious Formal Wear

Not going to lie....I felt a little extra walking around in this. But I kind of liked it?

This is PERFECT for those formal winter events that you're going to where you want to look fabulous, but not be completely freezing. Jumpsuits are all the rage right now. I went to a department store to find a long dress last week and literally couldn't find anything but jumpsuits...and I'm not mad about it. This is a trend I can easily get on board with. No tights? A formal outfit that's comfortable? Sign me up!

Now, let's not get too crazy...it is still winter. So for warmth's sake, I topped it off with this faux fur coat. I never get to wear this, so when I have any excuse to break this bad boy out, I'm taking it. And of course you can never go wrong with side swept waves and a pair of statement earrings.

Accent Dresses

So I'm going to start off with some sad news - this dress is sold out online. But, if you check your local Dillards, they may still have it in stock (it's Gianni Bini). But here comes the good news....I've found several similar options and some new favorites for you!

I've been into intricate detailing this year. Whether it be embroidery, beading, sequins or metallic accents - I love them all. And with winter weddings, galas, masquerades and social parties - I've been stocking up on some new dresses!

The key to wearing dresses with lots of detailing is to keep the accessories simple. If you're going to wear jewelry, I'd limit it to earrings. It's hard to wear a necklace with these dresses because it distracts from the beautiful details of the dress and adds unnecessary sparkle (gasp! I know...never thought you'd hear me say those words). It's also difficult to wear a bracelet. I've learned this from personal experience. If you've got any beading/sequins, a bracelet can easily catch and snag the dress. So unless it's super smooth - I'd leave it at home!

Hair and makeup really just depend on the dress - so imagine away! I'm always a fan of simple curls and a bold lip.

Most Comfortable Vest EVER

Do y'all ever have those days when you just can't deal with real clothes and want to spend the day wrapped up in a blanket? Because this is the struggle I deal with every weekday. Hah!

When you work with kids (or not), you just want to be comfortable. I'm running around all day, getting up and down off the ground - there is no room for heels and skirts. But I'm fashion lover down to my core, so part of me always wants to feel semi-chic. So, when I opened my latest package from my friends over at Chicwish, it was like the heavens had opened and dropped down this vest.

It feels like the softest blanket you've ever owned and is soooo comfy. I'm obsessed! Now, yes...it is a furry, fluffy statement - but when paired with all black underneath, it looks sleek and chic. This would be so cute with some chambray as well! This vest is definitely going to be on repeat all school year. And bonus - my kiddos love it (potentially) even more than I do.
