Valentine's Date Night

Valentine's day is just around the corner. I'll be spending the day with my sweet kiddos at work and then hanging my "Galentine's" that night - but I couldn't resist coming up with a date night look for those of you who aren't single this year.

If there's ever an excuse to pull out a romantic maxi dress, it's Valentine's. The holiday of love! And I'm a sucker for a cliche, so obviously I stuck to the typical color scheme. Wine is the perfect color for those of you who don't want to commit to a bright red or pink. It's one of my favorite colors to wear because it's so flattering on every skin tone. This particular dress from Tobi is so flowy and feminine, perfect for a date night. But I will say - all you fellow busty ladies, this dress definitely needed a bralette for me to feel covered enough to be comfortable. So I chose my favorite lace piece to layer underneath.

I worked with a local Nashville makeup artist to create a nude lip and smokey eye. My go-to for date nights because it's still sultry without being too much. You can check out Katheryn Golden here - her work is absolutely beautiful for those of you who are local!

And I have to give a special shoutout to my photographer, Lindsey Wilson. She is incredible! Her shots are sooo dreamy and her editing skills are out of this world. A talented beauty for sure!

Happy Valentine's week my friends!

Fur-ocious Formal Wear

Not going to lie....I felt a little extra walking around in this. But I kind of liked it?

This is PERFECT for those formal winter events that you're going to where you want to look fabulous, but not be completely freezing. Jumpsuits are all the rage right now. I went to a department store to find a long dress last week and literally couldn't find anything but jumpsuits...and I'm not mad about it. This is a trend I can easily get on board with. No tights? A formal outfit that's comfortable? Sign me up!

Now, let's not get too crazy...it is still winter. So for warmth's sake, I topped it off with this faux fur coat. I never get to wear this, so when I have any excuse to break this bad boy out, I'm taking it. And of course you can never go wrong with side swept waves and a pair of statement earrings.

Accent Dresses

So I'm going to start off with some sad news - this dress is sold out online. But, if you check your local Dillards, they may still have it in stock (it's Gianni Bini). But here comes the good news....I've found several similar options and some new favorites for you!

I've been into intricate detailing this year. Whether it be embroidery, beading, sequins or metallic accents - I love them all. And with winter weddings, galas, masquerades and social parties - I've been stocking up on some new dresses!

The key to wearing dresses with lots of detailing is to keep the accessories simple. If you're going to wear jewelry, I'd limit it to earrings. It's hard to wear a necklace with these dresses because it distracts from the beautiful details of the dress and adds unnecessary sparkle (gasp! I know...never thought you'd hear me say those words). It's also difficult to wear a bracelet. I've learned this from personal experience. If you've got any beading/sequins, a bracelet can easily catch and snag the dress. So unless it's super smooth - I'd leave it at home!

Hair and makeup really just depend on the dress - so imagine away! I'm always a fan of simple curls and a bold lip.

Most Comfortable Vest EVER

Do y'all ever have those days when you just can't deal with real clothes and want to spend the day wrapped up in a blanket? Because this is the struggle I deal with every weekday. Hah!

When you work with kids (or not), you just want to be comfortable. I'm running around all day, getting up and down off the ground - there is no room for heels and skirts. But I'm fashion lover down to my core, so part of me always wants to feel semi-chic. So, when I opened my latest package from my friends over at Chicwish, it was like the heavens had opened and dropped down this vest.

It feels like the softest blanket you've ever owned and is soooo comfy. I'm obsessed! Now, yes...it is a furry, fluffy statement - but when paired with all black underneath, it looks sleek and chic. This would be so cute with some chambray as well! This vest is definitely going to be on repeat all school year. And bonus - my kiddos love it (potentially) even more than I do. Mad about Plaid

Oooo, y'all. This coat has officially stolen my heart (and it helps that I worked with two amaze photographers on this shoot - their sites are linked under the photos). It has been crazy cold here in Nashville this past week which means that I've had 4 glorious snow days, but have been wearing a ridiculous amount of layers. It's hard to look fashionable when you feel like a marshmallow, but alas, this coat is the perfect solution! It's super thick and heavy, which was surprising considering the price point (under $100), and this plaid print is even more stunning in person. The print makes a bold statement, so I layered it over a fairly simple outfit to keep the focus on the coat. But I couldn't resist a little pattern play, so I finished the look with a fun leopard bootie.

Most of the coats I've invested in have been simple - either gray or black. And although I highly suggest having a few staples in your closet, I have to admit...this coat makes me feel so chic. I would have never thought to add a statement coat to my wardrobe but I am SO glad I did. It adds an element of fun to every outfit and is yet still so versatile. Dress it up, dress it down, keep it simple, or add layer various patterns to spice it up. I can't wait to wear this coat all winter long!

Grey's Fan

It's official. Tennessee weather is more confusing than Arkansas'. When I took these photos, it was 50 degrees outside....and now its 80. Like, what? But thank goodness for layers! This grey trench coat is so luxe and beautiful. Which, coming from J.Jill is exactly what I expect! It's the perfect neutral for all those fall and winter outfits! But it does run a little big, so size down. I'm wearing a medium here and could probably have gotten away with a small. But, I do like having a little bit of extra room so I can wear bulky sweaters underneath without feeling like a sausage. I also snagged this beautiful blush sweater - again, perfect neutral. Bonus, it's super soft and cozy. This sweater will for sure be a staple in my closet all fall!

I love adding bold accessories to neutral outfits. It's one of my favorite ways to make each outfit feel new and fun. So I finished this look off with these gorgeous fan earrings from Maude. And then topped my favorite bag off with this gorgeous scarf that supports the compassion fund! 100% of proceeds from the purchase of this scarf will be donated to community based organizations that directly help women in need.

Happy shopping!

Embroidered Dreams

It's no secret that I'm obsessed with embroidery at the moment. I think out of the last 5 pieces of clothing I've purchased, 4 of them have had embroidery of some sort. So clearly, it's safe to say that I'm a big fan of this trend. And as a big fan, the more embroidery - the merrier. So when I saw this moto jacket and maxi dress on Chicwish, I knew that they were a match made in heaven. I mean, come on! This is what embroidery dreams are made of!

This jacket is so versatile. I can't wait to style it throughout this season! It's perfect with dresses, jeans, skirts - the possibilities are endless. And whew - can we take a moment of silence for this dress? How gorgeous. I love that the sleeves and hem are sheer with just the embroidery detailing. Drama at it's finest.
