Kindergarten to Adulthood

If you know me at all, you know that I have an obsession with polka dots. Ever since I was a little girl, polka dots and stripes have been in hot competition - but dots always come out on top.

I went to Nordstrom this week to shop their half yearly sale and when I saw this top and skort (yes....skort) on the rack, I knew I needed them. They're perfect pieces for summer! Both are super light and airy and so neutral. Wear them together or wear them separate, they're adorable either way!

And my new necessity this summer is a good backpack. Again - a love since childhood. But this backpack is a little more sophisticated than my neon green North Face. This backpack is from my friends over at Radley London and is a gorgeous black grainy leather. I like getting textured leather because I feel like it wears better over time. This style also comes in a beautiful taupe! I'll for sure be taking this everywhere I go all summer long.

Accent Dresses

So I'm going to start off with some sad news - this dress is sold out online. But, if you check your local Dillards, they may still have it in stock (it's Gianni Bini). But here comes the good news....I've found several similar options and some new favorites for you!

I've been into intricate detailing this year. Whether it be embroidery, beading, sequins or metallic accents - I love them all. And with winter weddings, galas, masquerades and social parties - I've been stocking up on some new dresses!

The key to wearing dresses with lots of detailing is to keep the accessories simple. If you're going to wear jewelry, I'd limit it to earrings. It's hard to wear a necklace with these dresses because it distracts from the beautiful details of the dress and adds unnecessary sparkle (gasp! I know...never thought you'd hear me say those words). It's also difficult to wear a bracelet. I've learned this from personal experience. If you've got any beading/sequins, a bracelet can easily catch and snag the dress. So unless it's super smooth - I'd leave it at home!

Hair and makeup really just depend on the dress - so imagine away! I'm always a fan of simple curls and a bold lip.

Most Comfortable Vest EVER

Do y'all ever have those days when you just can't deal with real clothes and want to spend the day wrapped up in a blanket? Because this is the struggle I deal with every weekday. Hah!

When you work with kids (or not), you just want to be comfortable. I'm running around all day, getting up and down off the ground - there is no room for heels and skirts. But I'm fashion lover down to my core, so part of me always wants to feel semi-chic. So, when I opened my latest package from my friends over at Chicwish, it was like the heavens had opened and dropped down this vest.

It feels like the softest blanket you've ever owned and is soooo comfy. I'm obsessed! Now, yes...it is a furry, fluffy statement - but when paired with all black underneath, it looks sleek and chic. This would be so cute with some chambray as well! This vest is definitely going to be on repeat all school year. And bonus - my kiddos love it (potentially) even more than I do. Mad about Plaid

Oooo, y'all. This coat has officially stolen my heart (and it helps that I worked with two amaze photographers on this shoot - their sites are linked under the photos). It has been crazy cold here in Nashville this past week which means that I've had 4 glorious snow days, but have been wearing a ridiculous amount of layers. It's hard to look fashionable when you feel like a marshmallow, but alas, this coat is the perfect solution! It's super thick and heavy, which was surprising considering the price point (under $100), and this plaid print is even more stunning in person. The print makes a bold statement, so I layered it over a fairly simple outfit to keep the focus on the coat. But I couldn't resist a little pattern play, so I finished the look with a fun leopard bootie.

Most of the coats I've invested in have been simple - either gray or black. And although I highly suggest having a few staples in your closet, I have to admit...this coat makes me feel so chic. I would have never thought to add a statement coat to my wardrobe but I am SO glad I did. It adds an element of fun to every outfit and is yet still so versatile. Dress it up, dress it down, keep it simple, or add layer various patterns to spice it up. I can't wait to wear this coat all winter long!
