Back to School Style

For those of you who don't know - I work in the public schools. Which means back to school is right around the corner! I never thought I'd be talking about back to school fashion in my mid-20's, but here we are. Except now I'm focused on helping out all my sweet teacher and SLP friends!

Most school dress codes don't allow jeans - but as someone who spends a lot of their day getting up and down, on the floor, and running around, you have to find creative ways to wear comfy clothes. I recently worked with J.Jill and stumbled on the BEST JUMPSUIT EVER. It's a heavy weight rayon/spandex blend so it looks dressy but feels like sweatpants. The best of both worlds! And to cover the shoulders, I added a basic chambray shirt on top. I love tying this piece over tanks/dresses to add a little more coverage, but keep it fashionable and young. This outfit will be on repeat all school year long. Also easy to transition to fall/winter with blazers and jean jackets. A great staple piece!

Happy back to school!

Fur-ocious Formal Wear

Not going to lie....I felt a little extra walking around in this. But I kind of liked it?

This is PERFECT for those formal winter events that you're going to where you want to look fabulous, but not be completely freezing. Jumpsuits are all the rage right now. I went to a department store to find a long dress last week and literally couldn't find anything but jumpsuits...and I'm not mad about it. This is a trend I can easily get on board with. No tights? A formal outfit that's comfortable? Sign me up!

Now, let's not get too crazy...it is still winter. So for warmth's sake, I topped it off with this faux fur coat. I never get to wear this, so when I have any excuse to break this bad boy out, I'm taking it. And of course you can never go wrong with side swept waves and a pair of statement earrings.

Mad about Plaid

Oooo, y'all. This coat has officially stolen my heart (and it helps that I worked with two amaze photographers on this shoot - their sites are linked under the photos). It has been crazy cold here in Nashville this past week which means that I've had 4 glorious snow days, but have been wearing a ridiculous amount of layers. It's hard to look fashionable when you feel like a marshmallow, but alas, this coat is the perfect solution! It's super thick and heavy, which was surprising considering the price point (under $100), and this plaid print is even more stunning in person. The print makes a bold statement, so I layered it over a fairly simple outfit to keep the focus on the coat. But I couldn't resist a little pattern play, so I finished the look with a fun leopard bootie.

Most of the coats I've invested in have been simple - either gray or black. And although I highly suggest having a few staples in your closet, I have to admit...this coat makes me feel so chic. I would have never thought to add a statement coat to my wardrobe but I am SO glad I did. It adds an element of fun to every outfit and is yet still so versatile. Dress it up, dress it down, keep it simple, or add layer various patterns to spice it up. I can't wait to wear this coat all winter long!

Embroidered Obsessed

I know....you're all sick of seeing embroidery. But I LOVE IT. I might have an embarrassing amount of embroidery in my closet at the moment, but I can't help myself. I've gotten so many compliments on this sweater. It makes a statement while still being casual which I love. It's a little oversized and just slightly cropped. I styled it with jeans and my Keds - but this could easily be dressed up with a skirt and some boots. And I'm pleased to say that this is one of those sweaters that is even prettier in person. Sometimes a website will say "embroidered" when really, it's printed on. But this one is actual embroidery and the detailing is so intricate and pretty! Check it out below!

Embroidered Dreams

It's no secret that I'm obsessed with embroidery at the moment. I think out of the last 5 pieces of clothing I've purchased, 4 of them have had embroidery of some sort. So clearly, it's safe to say that I'm a big fan of this trend. And as a big fan, the more embroidery - the merrier. So when I saw this moto jacket and maxi dress on Chicwish, I knew that they were a match made in heaven. I mean, come on! This is what embroidery dreams are made of!

This jacket is so versatile. I can't wait to style it throughout this season! It's perfect with dresses, jeans, skirts - the possibilities are endless. And whew - can we take a moment of silence for this dress? How gorgeous. I love that the sleeves and hem are sheer with just the embroidery detailing. Drama at it's finest.

Fayetteville Meets Nashville

I've been in Nashville for almost 3 months now, and I feel like I'm finally getting the hang of it. Traffic is crazy, there is construction everywhere and I hear sirens 24/7. But there's always something to do, live music around every corner, great food and fashion - the pros for sure outweigh the cons. I'm loving my new city!

One of my favorite things about Nashville is that everyone has such unique style. I've definitely felt a little more freedom here to wear what I want, when I want, where I want. But I'm an Arkansas girl at heart, so I don't think I'll ever stray too far from my roots. So, I thought it'd be fun to do a little Fayetteville/Nashville fashion mashup.

This cardigan is from one of my favorite stores back home, Shop Maude. It's a gorgeous rust color and is literally the softest thing I own. As soon as I put it on, I immediately thought that there was no way I was going to be able to wash it (because the fabric is incredible) - but it's machine washable! What?! Best part for a girl who works with messy kiddos all week. And I LOVE the length of this cardigan, so perfect for fall and winter. I paired it with these cute little fan fringe earrings (which of course my hair decided to eat, so you can't see them well...struggles of long hair - but they're adorable and super light weight!) in grey. Shop Maude always has the best pieces for every season - not only fashionable, but high quality as well.

This tee and skirt are actually thrifted from a local Goodwill here in Nashville. I love vintage finds, and I live right by a Goodwill which is too convenient. I try to stop in every few weeks to see what new goodies they have. Nashville has awesome thrifting - I've found so many unique pieces. And I didn't feel like I was a true Nashvillian until I found my first vintage country tee. It's a Nash staple right? When I saw this Willie one, I snagged it as quickly as possible! And then of course had several other shoppers asking to buy it from me - but no way, this bad boy is all mine.

Hope you all have the best week! Happy Sunday!

Hottest Color Pairing for Fall

One of my new favorite color pairings for this season is wine and blush. Last year, I would have NEVER thought to put these together - but it's become such a big trend, I couldn't resist and I'm so happy I tried it. Y'all. This is one of those looks that you put on and instantly feel super chic. But bonus - this look was actually super comfortable as well. This top from KUT from the Kloth, which is a new brand to me. But I absolutely loveee this little ruffle details on the shoulder. I will say the top is a little sheer - but I put a cami underneath and it was ready to go!

I can't say enough good things about these pants. Seriously, I've been wearing them to work all week long. They are SO incredibly comfortable (but they're from J.Jill, so of course they are). They're made of a soft, stretchy fabric - so you feel like you're wearing yoga pants. And look at that wine color?! So pretty. I'll be wearing these all season. And, if you haven't heard yet, the new trend for winter this year is tights under everything. So I'll probably transition these to winter with some cute polka dot black tights and booties!

Cooler Weather Professional

We're finally getting some cooler weather here in Nashville! I am beyond ready for fall. It's by far my favorite season - smore's, cardigans, leaves, what's not to love? My go-to outift for cooler weather is leggings with a tunic and booties - but sadly, I'm a working girl now, so I need to look professional during the week!

And thankfully J.Jill has my back per usual. They make the best work-wear to stay fashionable and comfy. I started off with these ankle length stretch pants - so comfortable for running around all day, but still professional! I added this solid white tunic - a staple everyone needs in their closet - and topped it off the this cozy maroon cardigan. One of those outfits I can wear all day at work, but still come home and lounge in. The best of both worlds!

Snag these pieces below!
