Life is Sweet

Life CAN be sweet - and what's sweeter than a little pink gingham sundress?! I can't lie...part of me feels like Little Bo-Peep in this dress....but part of me loves it. Hah! It's so sweet and perfect for summer! The dress has a little layer of tulle to keep the skirt nice and full - clearly perfect for twirling in front of murals. I kept the Little Bo Peep theme going with braided pigtails - but this dress could easily be made a little more sophisticated with a sleek high pony, some heels and a pair of statement earrings. Nashville Trolley Tour

This week was my spring break (one of the perks of working in the school system) and my family came down to visit Nashville! They had only been down in Nash to help me move in and it was high time for a "fun trip". Nashville is one of my favorite cities! I might be slightly biased, but if you love country music and food - it's heaven. So, I got to play tourist with them and have a mini-staycation. One of my favorite activities we did was the Old Town Trolley!

I loved the trolley because it takes you everywhere you'd want to stop in Nashville AND you don't have to deal with driving yourself and parking! Nashville parking is the absolute worst. You can never find a spot or you have to pay a ridiculous amount per hour - it's terrible. So, I was so thrilled to be able to just hop on and off the trolley all day. So much easier! There are 15 stops on the tour:

1.  201 Broadway - this is right on Broadway, the main street downtown. Bars, food, and music galore!

2. Country Music Hall of Fame - This is a fun place to explore the history of country music. They have tons of unique pieces and artifacts from over the years! If you're a country fan - it's a must see.

3. Johnny Cash Museum - this one speaks for itself. If you love Cash, this stop is for you!

4. Ryman Auditorium - anyone who's anyone in the country biz has played here. It's full of history and so many of the greats have been on this stage!

5. Legislative Plaza - a gorgeous memorial to soldiers who gave their lives in WWI.

6. Musicians Hall of Fame - can't lie, I haven't had a chance to check this one out, but I've heard it's awesome!

7. Farmers Market - this is a great stop in the summer! Tons of vendors and places to walk around and explore. But in the winter, they do still have the inside open where you can get any type of cuisine your heart desires!

8. Marathon Motor Works - American Pickers (the TV show) has a store here and there are some gorgeous vintage cars to admire.

9. Centennial Park - the Parthenon is a MUST see.

10. Vanderbilt University - again, self explanatory

11. Hot Chicken - Hattie B's is a great place to grab some hot chicken! One of Nashville's many claims to fame.

12. Belmont Mansion - definitely walk around their campus, it is absolutely breathtaking!

13. Bobby's Idle Hour - this little gem is on Music Row, hang out long enough and you might catch a star walking around.

14. The Gulch - some of my all time favorite restaurants are down here! Don't miss Milk and Honey, St. Anejo and Burger Republic. Also some great shopping!

15. Frist Center - art lovers, this one is for you!

You can see all the details on their website. If you're visiting Nashville, or even just a local having a staycation, I highly recommend the Trolley Tour! I learned so many interesting facts about my favorite city and had the best time riding around all day, hopping to all my favorite places!

Joy in the Blog

I know. This is photo overload. But I honestly wanted to post 3x this amount! It took me a solid few hours to narrow it down to this. I had the honor of shooting with my sweet friend, Maria Gloer, this weekend at the most beautiful location in a gorgeous flower crown from Refuge Floral Co (based here in Nash). As a blogger, it's so easy to get in a rut. You shoot just to shoot and get the images up on the blog. Lately, I've been so guilty of this. I'd lost sight of the fun in blogging and was so caught up in saving time and getting things done just to get them done.

But this is NOT a sponsored post. The first time I've done that in a while - I had no product sent to me, no company pushing any products. Just got to work with a wonderful photographer and awesome local florist. Maria asked me to head out to the Narrows of the Harpeth with her for a "just because" shoot and I am SO happy I did. I forgot how fun it can be to get dressed up, style an outfit and hang out with a friend in a gorgeous spot. We had the best time exploring - even if I ended up hiking in a dress and tennis shoes - and laughed our way through the entire shoot. In this busy season of life, it's nice to appreciate the little things and I am going to do my best to get back to the joy of blogging. I love you all and am so thankful for the opportunity to share my fashion journey with you.

Mad about Plaid

Oooo, y'all. This coat has officially stolen my heart (and it helps that I worked with two amaze photographers on this shoot - their sites are linked under the photos). It has been crazy cold here in Nashville this past week which means that I've had 4 glorious snow days, but have been wearing a ridiculous amount of layers. It's hard to look fashionable when you feel like a marshmallow, but alas, this coat is the perfect solution! It's super thick and heavy, which was surprising considering the price point (under $100), and this plaid print is even more stunning in person. The print makes a bold statement, so I layered it over a fairly simple outfit to keep the focus on the coat. But I couldn't resist a little pattern play, so I finished the look with a fun leopard bootie.

Most of the coats I've invested in have been simple - either gray or black. And although I highly suggest having a few staples in your closet, I have to admit...this coat makes me feel so chic. I would have never thought to add a statement coat to my wardrobe but I am SO glad I did. It adds an element of fun to every outfit and is yet still so versatile. Dress it up, dress it down, keep it simple, or add layer various patterns to spice it up. I can't wait to wear this coat all winter long!

Shop this look below. And check out Micahla and Maria!
